Friends, colleagues and scholars come together to celebrate the sixty-year writing career of Vasilis Vasilikos, in an evening dedicated to Greece’s most acclaimed living novelist and his work.

The event will be held on November 25, at the Athens Concert Hall (Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall) and the program will include contributions by artists, scholars and ardent readers of his work.

Vasilikos was born on the Greek island of Thasos, grew up in Thessaloniki and graduated law school there before moving to Athens to work as a journalist. He was forced into exile following the 1967 military coup, because of his political action and remained there for the next seven years.

Between 1981 and 1984 Vassilikos served as general manager of the Greek state television channel ET1. Since 1996, he has served as Greece’s ambassador to UNESCO.

As an author, Vasilikos is one of the most prolific and widely-translated Greek authors. He has published more than 100 books and his best-known work is the political novel Z (1967) which has been translated into thirty-two languages and was the basis of the award-winning film Z directed by Costas Gavras.

The event is coordinated by literature critic Aristotelis Sainis.
