Inmate Nikos Romanos’ parents requested to visit Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in order to urge for a solution to be found for their son who has been on hunger strike since November 10, when his educational furlough was rejected. The young boy is seeking to have the decision revoked after he successfully entered a Technical Educational Institute to study Business Administration after managing to get into tertiary education by studying within prison.
The young boy has become an inspiration for many celebrities and doctors treating him at Gennimatas Hospital where his health is deteriorating. Mr. Romanos, in jail for armed robbery, was present when his 15-year-old friend Alexis Grigoropoulos was shot by a policeman at Exarhia and his mother has said that the incident marked him for life.
George Romanos, the young man’s father went to Megaron Maximos, the prime minister’s headquarters from the side entrance. He was not accompanied by the boy’s mother.
“A solution hasn’t been found for our problem at the present time,” he said following the meeting with the prime minister, also attended by Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou. The father asked for a solution and implored Mr. Samaras to accept his son’s request.
