Ali Abdel Baki will spend the next 10 years of his life behind bars, since he was found guilty of spying against his country on behalf of Israel. According to the court of Port Said, Baki sold information on Egyptian and foreign vessels movements, especially Iran ships to Israel, something which is alarming for the country’s security.

Two Israelis, who allegedly are the people whom Baki gave information to, were tried in absentia and sentenced the life imprisonment, according to news agency MENA.

Baki, who worked as a port authority manager in the Suez Canal was accused of giving detailed reports of his the port was run and administered.

Information shows Baki having come into contact with the two men, who were members of Israeli secret services, through the internet, in 2011, while their first personal contact was later that year at the Bangkok embassy.

Furthermore, Baki was accused of planning to distribute information on the Egyptian navy to other neighboring countries like Syria, Iran and the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah.

All this started on February 2011, when two Iran warships entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal for the first time since the Islamic revolution of 1979. This alarmed Israel which raised its Navy’s readiness.
