True to the tradition, carolers visited political leaders around Greece.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his wife Georgia were visited by the New Horizons Association, the band of the Greek police and fire brigade as well as scouts. He heard the carols with a slight delay due to the fact that he was on the phone with his Chinese counterpart.
Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos heard carols from the children of Kivoto and the band of the Greek police and fire brigade. He chose to focus on the message of hope and optimism that Christmas brings in his statement.
On his part, main opposition Coalition of the Left leader Alexis Tsipras heard carols from Epirus. The president of the Panepirus Federation, George Economou, gave him a book on the liberation of Ioannina and wished Mr. Tsipras the opportunity to be the liberator of people’s poverty. Mr. Tsipras said that the people of Epirus are proud with their heads held high.
Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis had carols sung to him by members of the Serra traditional Pontian dancing group. “I hope that we will all overcome the difficulties,” said Mr. Kouvelis. Communist party leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas was paid a visit by the Association of Southern Greece Pontian Unions on Wednesday morning.
“These days ahead of us require that the people…determine the developments. The times ahead of us require an even stronger KKE, as the day after the possible upcoming elections needs a KKE that will be much stronger for the sake of the people,” said Mr. Koutsoumbas.
