The third and final round of the presidential elections that will take place on Monday at noon is Prime Minister Antonis Samaras last-ditch effort to avoid early national elections, says Bloomberg in an article published today.
Commenting on the latest political developments in Greece, the news agency states that snap national elections bear the risk of “severing the country’s international lifeline.”
The article also makes specific reference to the Prime Minister’s proposal to Greek deputies, that asked for their vote in exchange with the promise of a parliamentary election at the end of next year.
According to Theodore Couloumbis, a professor emeritus of international relations at the University of Athens, this initiative “is based on the assumption, supported by just about all the polls, that the Greek people do not want an early election in January.”
