Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras freed a white dove as soon as the Holy Cross was thrown into the cold waters of Piraeus for the Epiphany Day celebration. The ceremony took place on a wooden promenade outside St. Spyridon Church.
Holy Liturge took place beforehand at the Holy Trinity Church in the presence of Metropolitan Bishop Serapheim of Piraeus and in the presence of Piraeus Mayor John Moralis as well as local officials and deputies.
Following the ceremony, Mr. Tsipras said: “Today is an important day for Orthodoxy, a bright celebration for the Greek nation. Let’s hope that the light of justice and truth will warm our country from this day onwards.”
