The Mycenean ring of the legendary King Theseus had been found during excavations at the foot of the Acropolis in the Fifties. Never before viewed by the public, it will be displayed for the first time at the National Archaeological Museum. An event showcasing this ring and other antiquities held in storage will take place at 6 p.m. on January 12, 2015. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Culture, the presentation of the ring is part of an initiative aimed at presenting choice antiquities from its extensive storage warehouses.
The initiative is titled “The Invisible Museum” and casts the spotlight on items owned by Greece but hidden from public sight due to a lack of space. Each two months the display will be rejuvenated with more antiquities coming to light.
