According to a survey conducted by the economists of Bloomberg news agency, almost 10 days ahead of the Greek general elections to be held on January 25, there is an 80% chance that Greece will remain in the euro zone even if SYRIZA gets enough votes to form a majority government.
If main opposition leader Alexis Tsipras forms a coalition government with a centrist party, the chance of Greece leaving the euro zone will be about 15% versus the 5% chance under an alliance led by New Democracy.
Making specific reference to the main opposition’s clear lead in all the recent polls, which shows that the Greek people are worn down by years of austerity measures, the article also notes that SYRIZA promises to write down some of the national debt.
More than 50% of respondents see the country getting debt relief, whoever emerges as the winner of the election battle.
