SYRIZA’s chief economist: The property tax threshold will be 200,000 euros

Minister of State Dimitris Stamatis commented on Milios' statements

Newsroom January 17 06:35

Main opposition SYRIZA’s position regarding the taxation of property continues to be vague, as different members of the party seem to have a different idea of what the new tax’s threshold will be, if the party comes to power.

Following SYRIZA deputy Dimitris Stratoulis’ statements that SYRIZA will set a threshold of 450,000 euros for the taxation of large property, Giannis Millions, the Chief economist of the main opposition party, said today that Greeks whose property holdings have values exceeding 200,000 euros will also have to pay.

It should be noted that the new tax is meant to replace ENFIA, an unjust property tax that has cost ruling New Democracy many of its voters, according to polls.

Today, the last cabinet meeting of 2025 with 2026 reforms on the agenda and a new message from Mitsotakis to the blockades

Mr. Milios reiterated on Saturday his party’s intention to abolish ENFIA and stated that although the remaining installments of the old tax will have to be paid in full, SYRIZA has a plan to help out those who are unable to pay.

In the meantime, Minister of State Dimitris Stamatis, commenting on Alexis Tsipras and Giannis Milios latest statements on ENFIA and the new tax, said that the main opposition seeks to eliminate the Greek middle class with its new policy.

“For SYRIZA, large property is any property worth more than 200,000 euros, i.e. the kind of property owned by the middle class in Greece,” Mr. Stamatis said, adding that the main opposition’s intentions are now clear.
