Right-wing anti-austerity Independent Greeks (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos voted on the small Dodecanese isle of Nisyros on Sunday.

“Today, from the island of Nisyros, we are sending a message of hope,” he said. “It is a day of democracy, a landmark moment in the history of Greece, a day when the Greek people decide for the restoration of national sovereignty, of democracy and of the Constitution. There will no longer be a Greece governed through e-mails.”

He reminded voters of ANEL’s pledge to be one of the “regulators” of any new government. “Starting from tomorrow we will be the guarantors of the country’s course where all Greeks will be united. The terror and the theories of the two extremes have ended. We will join our souls and our forces to defend our nation. When we are free we will have the chance to argue again.”
