European Parliament President Martin Schultz called SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras on Sunday evening to congratulate him over his party’s victory in the country’s general elections.
Schultz characterized Sunday’s victory a huge success and told Tsipras that he will visit Athens next week, after the swearing-in of a new government and ahead of his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
He also assured Tsipras that he would do whatever in his power so that a “mutually acceptable, viable solution” is found, in the context of Greece’s negotiations with its creditors.
