Nikos Aliagas announced on Twitter that Demis Roussos died in Athens, in the Ygeia hospital.

His parents, George and Olga were Alexandria Greeks. He was born and raised in Alexandria. They lost everything after the Suez events and moved to Greece.

In Greece, he took part in several bands, like “The Idols” at 17, and “We Five”, without great success.

However, he became quickly known in 1968 with Aphrodite’s Child, on vocals and bass. His unique vocal style made the band famous across the world, especially with the vinyl released, titled “666”, which quickly became a classic hit.

After Aphrodite’s Child, he continued recording sporadically. He cooperated with Vangelis Papathanassiou, and released “Sex Power” in 1970 and “Magic” in 1977. Their biggest success was “Race to the End” a vocalization of “Chariots of Fire”. Roussos also took part in the Blade Runner soundtrack.
