Greece is gripped by cold. The National Meteorological Service predicts that the weather will worsen on Wednesday, February 11, with snowfall to the east and south, whereas temperatures will remain low. Wind velocity will range from 6-8 Beaufort to the north and 9-10 Beaufort in the Aegean. Freezing conditions are expected to worsen over the night.
In Northern parts of the country temperatures will range from -08C-05C. Partly cloudy in the western parts with temperatures between 1C-8C. Snowfall in the eastern parts with temperatures between -4C-6C. Sleet over the islands, 4C-9C. Partly cloudy with possibility of snowfall in Athens, 2C-4C. Partly cloudy in Thessaloniki, -2C-4C.

Schools closed down
In East Attica: Municipality of Saronikos: Kouvara Primary School, Peta High School, Kouvara nursery school
Municipality of Marathon: ΕΕΕΕΚ Pammakaristos, 2οth High School of Voutza, School units at Varnava, Grammatiko. Schools at the rest of Marathon will operate as normal unless the weather worsens
Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi: Special Needs School of Daou Pendeli, Special Needs Primary School of Daou Pendelis, all the schools of the Municipality of Oropo will remain shut
In West Attica: All the schools of the Municipality of Phylis and Mandras will be closed as well as schools at Vilia and Kriekouki
In North Attica: All schools at Maroussi, Lykovrysi-Pefki, Ekali, Kifissia, Vrilissia and Municipality of Penteli (Penteli, Nea Penteli, Melissia) will remain shut
Kifissia and South Erythraia’s schools will start operating at 9 a.m.
Galatsi’s nursery schools, primary schools, junior and senior high schools as well as child care facilities will remain shut.
Ferries
High wind velocity and northern winds from 9-10 Beaufort have caused the cancelation of many ferries in the Aegean. No departures from the Port of Piraeus to the NE Aegean, Cyclades, Dodecannese and Crete. Only closed ferries are traveling to islands of the Saronic Gulf.
Piraeus-Paloukia routes are working as usual.
No departures from Rafina and Lavrio
Route Agia Marina-Nea Styra is closed. Open routes are those of Volos-Sporades, Keramoti Kavalas-Thassos, Igoumenitsa-Corfu, Igoumenitsa-Lefkimmi, Kyllini-Zakynthos, Kyllini-Kefallonia and Rio-Antirrio.
Passengers are advised to call their ticket providers before traveling to ensure that the routes they are interested in are working.
