Benaki Museum hosts exhibition dedicated to painter Dimitris Mytaras

“Dimitris Mytaras and his colleagues in the Athens School of Fine Arts”

Newsroom February 15 10:32

Benaki Museum hosts an exhibition dedicated to the Master and Academician Dimitris Mytaras, whose presence honored as much the Greek and international art scene, as well as the Athens School of Fine Arts. The exhibition opened on February 2 and it is scheduled to run until March 8.

Mytaras is considered one of the important Greek painters of the 20th century.

His work is mainly inspired by the human figure, and a combination of naturalism and expressionism. From the 1960s onward, Mytaras moved in the direction of Critical Realism, while from 1975 an expressionistic approach became more and more marked in his output.

The acclaimed painter served as Professor to the School of Fine Arts from 1975 until 2001, where he was initially appointed as director of the preparatory course of the School and then as director of the Painting I studio.
