The leftist Greek government reiterated on Tuesday its decision not to accept what it considers an ultimatum issued at a Eurogroup meeting by the country’s eurzone creditors, according to which Greece must ask for an extension of the current bailout agreement (memorandum) by Friday.
In an announcement released at noon, the Greek government says it’s committed to seeking a mutually beneficial solution with its European partners, through the continuation of the negotiations and underlines that finding such a solution is feasible.
The government also identified the points in the document submitted on Monday by Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem that it says were unacceptable, such as:
– “The Greek authorities have made clear their intention to successfully complete the program, taking into account the Greek government’s plans.”
– “The Greek authorities have expressed their firm commitment to refrain from any unilateral action and will cooperate closely with the European and international partners, especially in the fields of tax policy, privatization, labor market reforms, finance and pensions.”
– “The Greek authorities have expressed their intention to request a 6-month technical extension of the current program as a transitional step.”
