Could Lampedusa become ISIS entry point into Europe?

Italian authorities on high alert

Newsroom February 18 03:39

At a time when Jihadists are burning and beheading people, or cutting off women’s hands off because they used cellphones, the nightmare of a new round of mass executions surfaced after 35 Egyptian Coptic farmers were kidnapped in Libya in retribution for Egypt’s air raids.

The Egyptian government, on its part, asked the UN to ratify an international operation that will eliminate the ISIS threat. All this takes place amid growing fears that ISIS plans to infiltrate Europe through Libya. Specifically, Italian officials fear that jihadists will use the isle of Lampedusa as a gateway to sneak onto Italian soil — and thus to the rest of Europe.

According to La Repubblica, migrant centers are full and Italian officials seek a solution which will not endanger the lives of migrants, many of whom are plunked out of the Mediterranean’s waters.

However, according to authorities, when coast guard officers approached Libyan authorities in a bid to repel illegal migrants, they were met with men armed with assault rifles.
