We saw Juliette Binoche for the first time in Krzysztof Kieslowski’s “Three Colours: Blue” movie and we fell in love with her talent. The French actress has visited Greece many a time and is a huge fan of ancient drama. In a few weeks, the actress will be acting out Antigone, in London the famous Sophocles ancient tragedy, this time directed by Ivo Van Hove.

Binoche and Van Hove made a joint decision to explore Greek tragedies. According to an interview they gave to “The Guardian”, they speak of their decision, rehearsals and experience. Binoche states that the center of the tragedy, for her, are “the myths, the archetypes, that which we are all made of, the simple questions we all pose”.

Ancient Greek Tragedy has many powerful female characters, since it offers huge parts of bravery: Medea, Clytemnestra, Electra… But Binoche chose Antigone, because her grief and heroism shook her to her core.

The play will be shown in the Barbican Theatre between the 4th and 28th of March.
