Representatives of migrant and refugee groups met with Alternate Minister for Migration Policy Tasia Christodoulopoulou at the ministry in Athens. Representatives from Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan and Syria briefed her on their problems.
The groups are particularly interested in shutting down migrant detention centers and want help when applying for asylum. Documented migrants want longer-term residency permits, and all legal non-EU residents are hoping for equal labor, insurance and pension rights.
The minister said that she would always be available to the groups and requested the communities’ assistance in supporting individuals who are released from the migrant detention centres and need housing or food.
