Greek public opinion has been sickened by the details coming to light following the capture of a 40-year-old pedophile arrested on Tuesday. The man was arrested following police interception into a recent telephone call with a 13-year-old boy. The man arranged a meeting and then led the boy to his specially-created van when the police stepped in to put an end to the situation.

Inside the van they found a bed, blankets, pillows, fans and special “fantasy” lighting. There were sweets and other “tools” that the 40-year-0ld reportedly used to draw in his young victims.

The man is also being charged for a crime that took place three months ago when he set up a meeting with a 14-year-old girl after he impersonated a boy, aged 16, during their online interactions. The unfortunate girl arrived at the meeting unaware that the person she had been speaking to was a sex offender. According to her testimony, the man dragged her by force to his home, cut her hair so that she would look like a boy and then raped her. He then put her back in the van and threw her out into the street in the middle of the night. The police found her and led her to the station and her account made its way to the Prosecutor.

The perpetrator’s total number of victims still remain a mystery.

The pedophile’s mother, speaking to Proto Thema, states that her son was set up without giving more details. The woman, who works at her son’s mini market in the Athens suburb of Peristeri, is convinced of her son’s innocence.

“My son was speaking with a 19-year-old. It isn’t possible. I believe that they set him up. He is a good kid and works 18 hours a day. We live together. All the neighbors knew him,” she says.
