Bank of Greece Gov. Yiannis Stournaras appeared reassuring following a meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at Maximos Mansion on Friday morning, telling reporters that there was no problem with deposits in Greek systemic banks.
“I briefed the prime minister and finance delegation on the ECB meeting (this week on Cyprus),” he said. The meeting lasted nearly two hours and was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis and Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis.
“I was assured by both the prime minister and the ministry of finance’s officials that they will be working hard over the next three days so that they have a positive outcome at Monday’s Eurogroup,” he said.
Stournaras added that Greek banks have the support of the ECB and there is no danger for deposits. He said that Monday’s Eurogroup meeting is significant and that the government is working towards achieving success in this direction.
