European Central Bank head Mario Draghi reportedly stepped up pressure on Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis during Monday’s Eurogroup meeting to accept a return of the “Institutions” (ECB, IMF and the EC) to Greece, according to a Bloomberg report citing unnamed European officials.
Specifically, Draghi told the Greek side that they must let euro-zone representatives come back to Athens and examine the government’s books if they are ever going to obtain more aid.
According to the same sources, the Greek minister told Draghi that the idea that Greece was opposed to such a visit was a misunderstanding.
“Can they start soon?” Draghi asked. Varoufakis agreed and the date was set for Wednesday.
