German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on Thursday dismissed the substance of a demarche presented by the Greek ambassador in Berlin to the German foreign ministry, expressing Athens’ displeasure over German FinMin Wolfgang Schaeuble’s critical statements against his Greek counterpart, Yanis Varoufakis.
Speaking to German reporters after a Eurogroup session on Monday, Schaeuble referred to Greece’s finance minister as “foolishly naive” in matters of dealings with the media.
Schaeuble told Reuters on Thursday that it was “nonsense” to suggest he had insulted Varoufakis.
“No, I haven’t insulted my Greek counterpart, that is nonsense,” the German Finmin said, when asked about the demarche.
