Fethiye Mosque in Monastiraki, near the Roman Agora, stands as one of the most important remnants of the Ottoman era in Athens. It’s restoration is set to be completed by September 2015. 1.3 mln euros has been benchmarked for the restorations, funded by the National Regional Strategic Framework.

Built in 1670, on the ruins of a Christian Byzantine basilica it uses the quatrefoil architecture as it stands on four spheres to support the central dome. The specific style of architecture was created by the Ottomans, possibly inspired by the Church of Agia Sophia.
