One attention-grabbing Internet news story creating a major stir in Greece on Wednesday relates to how friends and neighbors of a deceased Thessaloniki man discovered … 1.5 million euros and 350,000 euros worth of gold coins stored in plastic containers, an attic and in desk drawers!

According to the site Cretalive, the money belonged to a pensioner who had previously served as a high-ranking official at Greece’s …state-run railway operator (OSE).

The elderly man was described as unmarried, without children or any close relatives. He died in a neighborhood coffee shop, apparently from a heart attack or stroke and with 2,000 euros in his pockets.
