Culture Minister Nikos Xydakis told private MEGA TV that Greece does not intend to make a legal claim for the return of the Parthenon Marbles from the British Museum. He said taht the route for claiming the return of the cultural artifacts stolen from Greece is “diplomatic and political”.

He said that the 150-page report presented by barrister Amal Alamuddin Clooney and the legal team from Doughty Street Chambers is part of a legal opinion gradually being handed over by the Robertson-Palmer law firm.

He pointed out that the “outcome is uncertain in international courts” and going to trial over the issue is “not that simple”. He said that the climate on the issue of the Parthenon Marbles’ repatriation was slowly shifting but needed more work.

Regarding Amphipolis, he said that the finds at the site were significant but the publicity had been severly mishandled turning the event into a media “circus”. He said that work was now taking place at a quieter level and focused on preserving and restoring the site.
