Rule of thumb appears to be: Bring non-toxic disinfectant and clean all surfaces yourself

a. Be wary of touching the television remotes, light switches and other commonly touched places in the room.
A study by the University of Houston revealed these features are often the least cleaned, and in some cases, they had as much bacteria as bathroom toilet seats and sinks.
b. Don’t drink from the hotel glasses
c. Rooms are more expensive in the morning, cheaper in the afternoon and again expensive at night.
d. They expect you to take the toiletries
e. Always request clean linens when you check in.
f. You can make last-minute cancellations, without paying a fee.
g. Be careful when using the coffee machine, it’s not always cleaned. Always clean the machine yourself before use.
h. Don’t always rely on the concierge’s recommendation, staff may get a “cut” on sending patrons to a restaurant, bar etc.
i. Request the top floor or a corner room. The top floor rooms tend to have higher ceilings, better views and less noise than other rooms. Corner rooms also tend to be larger – regardless of the floor they are on.

Thanks Becky.
