Greek govt reshuffle on Friday, practically assured

Most 'dissidents' to be axed from Cabinet

Newsroom July 16 07:14

A government reshuffle will be announced on Friday in the wake of more than three dozen “losses” sustained by ruling SYRIZA party during an early morning vote on an agreement with creditors.

As per typical Greek political and media speculation, various names were being tossed out a day earlier, both in terms of leaving the Cabinet and replacements.

A reshuffle was more-or-less guaranteed this week in the wake of an ECB decision to raise the ELA ceiling for the Greek banking system, as well as a Eurogroup decision for a “bridge-loan” to the country.

Turning to predictions, the ministers who voted against the agreement with creditors – Lafazanis, Stratoulis, Isichos and Valavani — will lose their portfolios. The latter, in fact, has already tendered her resignation.

One unanswered question is the fate of Parliament President Zoe Cosntantopoulou, whose delay-tactics and brash attitude has created friction and generated scorn in practically every Parliament aisle.
