Turkey seizes property of two Greek Marxists

Turkey has a year to launch investigations into C. Xiros and N. Maziotis' terrorist activities so as to be entitled to their property

Newsroom August 5 12:03

Turkey’s Official Gazette – the country’s ledger of legislative announcements – announced the seizure of the assets in Turkey of Greek-born Christodoulos Xiros and Nikolaos Maziotis for their involvement in terrorist activities in Greece. The seizure is in accordance with the United Nations Security Council decision no. 1373. Both men were declared terrorists by the United States on April 21 after the radical Marxist organization that Christodoulos Xiros was a member of was responsible for the murder of Press Attache Cetin Gorgu at Turkey’s Athens Embassy on November 17, 1991, and of the same embassy’s Undersecretary Haluk Sipahioglu in 1994.

There’s a catch, however. If the Turkish state does not launch an investigation into their activities within a year, the seizure order on their assets in Turkey will be lifted. Furthermore, a lawsuit to annul the decision can be filed at the Council of State within 60 days.
