The 53rd Lefkada Folklore Festival began over the weekend on the picturesque Ionian island, an annual event that brings together folklore troupes from around the world.
Performers from each participating country will appear every night at the island’s open theater until Aug. 23, when the festival ends.
A parade of performing folklore troupes took place on Sunday through the island’s capital’s main thoroughfare.
One of the official guests at this year’s festival was the Chinese embassy in Athens’ cultural attaché.
