Along with the battle of the political parties vying for the votes of the Greek citizens, there was another ‘contest’ unfolding on election night: that of the Greek TV channels’ ratings.
The ‘action’ between the main news anchors kicked off at 6 pm (Greek time) and all the television stations’ crews were in place, ready to relay any election-related piece of information to viewers. According to ratings company AGB, during the crucial 2 hour-period from 7 pm to 9 pm when the exit polls and a projection of the winner were aired, Alpha TV won with 17.9% of the share, closely followed by Star TV (17.3%), while Mega Channel had 15,5% of the viewers’ share. Skai TV had 13.5%, ERT state broadcasters (10.2%), and Ant-1 TV had 8.1%. Overall, Star Channel got 23.3% of the dynamic viewers.
