With the participation of hundreds of worshippers and in an atmosphere of deep religious devotion, the Deposition Service was once again held this year on the so-called Golgotha Hill, which overlooks the Holy Monastery of Panagia Kato Xenia, in Almyros, Magnesia.

The Deposition ceremony, as well as the reenactment of the burial of the Body of Christ in a natural rocky crypt, was conducted by the Metropolitan of Dimitriada and Almyros, Ignatios.

This particular religious event is a vivid reenactment of the culmination of the Divine Passion and dates back to 1976, when it was first organized on the initiative of the then Metropolitan of Dimitriada, later Archbishop, Christodoulos. Since then, it has been established as an annual tradition, attracting large numbers of faithful each year from various parts of the country.
