The first Cabinet meeting of the second Tsipras government in 2015 took place on Friday after ascheduled swearing in ceremony of Alternate Migration Minister Yiannis Mouzalas and Deputy Infrastructure Minister Panagiotis Sgouridis. In addressing his ministers (and a live television feed) PM Alexis Tsipras asked Cabinet to dedicate themselves more on their work rather than appearance on television news programs..
He detailed a “laundry list” of strategic goals, although the details were sketchy:
* Efforts must continue to upgrade the national health center and create a national health system.
* There need to be reforms in the education system and research sector.
* Time must not be wasted and “everyone will be judged by the work he will produce.”
* The government’s economic productive model will be based on respect and protection of employment and redistribution of burdens.
* Emphasis will be given on innovation.
* Restoring the banking system’s normalization is necessary.
* Greece will implement its long-term strategic plan as agreed in the third bailout. Draft laws were ready to pass in Parliament before the elections and will be voted on immediately. These include bills on broadcast licenses, … tobacco smuggling, education, innovation and research, etc.
“I want to congratulate you and wish you the best,” he said. “We must honor the support and trust the people offered to us twice in seven months.”
The goal is to restore Greek people’s dignity and create a Greece that doesn’t need lenders’ supervision.
