Feeding the 5000, a flagship campaigning even and celebratory feast is aimed at drawing attention to the amount of edible food thrown away. Athens has joined the food waste revolution with its own event that takes place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Kotzia Square on Sunday, October 11.

A delicious free meal for 5,000 people will be served using fresh fruit and veggies usually discarded because of their appearance. The meal includes crooked carrots, ugly potatoes and zucchini with “an attitude”.

Expect to eat
– 5,000 thousand servings of delicious briam (Greek mixed roasted vegetables) to be prepared by the Chefs Club of Athens
– Cooking demonstrations by the chefs Diana Kochila, Alexander Papandreou and Gikas Xenakis using leftovers!
– Disco Soup DJ will present a street party where people build and share a giant salad, and clean and cut vegetables to the sounds of music.
– Anti-Food waste cocktails by Giannis Korovesis.
– Educational workshops for children from the non-profit organisation BOROUME, the British Council, and the collective Troo Food Liberation.
