Greek Parliament’s auditors have been left “exposed” yet again following Sunday’s statements by the head of MPs’ auditors committee, George Varemenos, who stated that he would give State Minister Alekos Flambouraris a chance to redeem himself following his erroneous declaration of assets in April 2015. Rather than be punished for failure to declare his majority shareholding in Diatmisi S.A. – the technical company he founded – as exposed in Proto Thema’s reportage, Varemenos said that the wrongs will be righted with an additional statement!
Varemenos has been under pressure by the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) to put an end to the matter that had been allegedl probed by the previous parliamentary Audit Committee for Declarations of Assets. Speaking to private MEGA TV, Varemenos said that loose ends will be tied – not by penalizing the minister for his faulty declaration – but by making him declare an addendum. Back in September, Flambouraris had rejected allegations that he had not sold his shares at the time of his appointment and that his company had been contracted by the Greek state for public works and received state funds while the minister was in cabinet. The blatent lies will now be washed away with a new declaration setting a new precedent in Greek Parliament regarding assets declarations or lack of!
The questions that arise are as follows. Centrist Potami MP Harry Theoharis is submitting the following quesitons regarding the unusual handling of Flambouraris’ fraudulence:
1. Why does the accountant of Diatmisi S.A. not have such a large amount in ne bank account or term deposit?
2. If Flambouraris has such a large amount of cash, then why did he not pay off his banking obligations in full to receive discounts but instead chose to pay interest that he may not receive?
3. Did he have that much cash to sign post-dated checks or have debts to the state and surcharges incurred to funds?
