The saga of the sacked Finance Ministry cleaners entered the international spotlight as the dismissed ladies donned their pink gloves and staged a protest outside the ministry for months on end. The return to their posts resulted in celebration and pandemonium when they were rehired by former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis just ahead of the crucial May 11 Eurogroup meeting.
Now, Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos has rehired 17 of the Ministry of Finance cleaners to work as administration staff in his ministry. Their promotion for cleaning staff to secretarial desk jobs has prompted the reaction of lawyers who believe that it will be impossible for the cleaners to do the jobs of secretaries.
