Russian artist Pyrotr Pavlensky, aged 31, achieved worldwide fame and notoriety in Russia two years ago after he nailed his genitals to the pavement of Moscow’s Red Square. The artist is back in the limelight and has been jailed for 30 days pending a trial where he is accused to have set fire to the doors of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB). Detained in a Moscow court until December 8, prosecutors warn that he could flee the country or reoffend.

Russian news reports state he poured petrol onto the wooden doors of the FSB, set it alight and then stood next to it, calling it an “artwork”, until the policemen arrived. The artist now faces up to three years in prison for vandalism charges.
