Greek authorities have still not found any trace of the two young men from Messolonghi, Etoloakarnania who have been missing from New Year’s day.

The two friends, Giannis, 40, and Vassilis, 35, went out to entertain after the arrival of the New Year at the village of Pentalofo, but they did not return home.

The last time they were seen was at 5:00 am on New Year’s day at Lesini village when a security camera recorded their car, a black Toyota Corolla with registration number AIK 7885.

Police try to gather as many testimonies as they can and using the evidence they have already they try to understand how is it possible the two men and their car disappeared without leaving a trace.

According to reports, police consider two scenarios: Either the two men had a car accident on the banks of Acheloos river, since they both had consumed alcohol, or they accidentally became witnesses of an illegal transaction and they “disappeared”.

Authorities have thoroughly researched the river on Saturday, but on Sunday due to the bad weather was not possible to continue the investigations.

Today they will search again Acheloos river as well as the wider area using also a police helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera, while the special unit of fire service of Patras, firefighters and volunteers participate in the investigations.
