The College of Commissioners is expected to discuss tomorrow a draft on suspending the Schengen Agreement for Greece for two years, which will mean exclusion of Greece from the European zone, French newspaper  Le Monde reports.

According to the article, if the draft is approved, European Commission will first assess the situation at Greece-Turkey borders, which are also the borders of the Schengen area.

Then, it will submit its report to the European Council summit, where the recommendation should be approved by a qualified majority.

Afterwards, Greece will have a three-month deadline to address the problem, otherwise European Commission will propose a two-year suspension of Schengen Agreement and re-establish the internal border controls.

Le Monde also mentions that EU promotes the closing of Greece-FYROM borders aiming to limit the refugee flow. However, as it is mentioned, this strategy “punishes Greece, raising the number of refugees who are trapped in its territory”.
