Two crucial meetings between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras with socialist PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata (1 p.m.) and Democratic Left Party leader Fotis Kouvelis (2 p.m.) on Tuesday have fueled speculation regarding the possibility of party collaborations in Greek Parliament.
Gennimata had asked for a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss a number of burning issues for Greece, such as the handling of the refugee crisis to avert an exit from the Schengen Zone. She hopes that there could be a common line. On his part, Kouvelis has said that he intends to announce a number of initiatives that European Socialists can take to help deal with the refugee problem.
Rumors concerning more elections for Greece are continuing following the government’s failure to reach an honorable compromise with creditors. There is huge pressure by Greece’s lenders concerning social security on the one hand and social mobilization on the other.
