The Greek government seems to be confused about the early elections, as its officials make contradictory statements on the issue.

Two days ago the head of the junior party in Greece’s ruling coalition Panos Kammenos stated that  if the institutions “insisted on unreasonable demands”, then early elections could possibly be conducted, while officials close to Prime Minister ruled out any possibility of early elections.

“It is unthinkable to conduct elections, we cannot have elections every three months” the government source argued adding that Greek government’s issues are the refugee crisis and the completion of Greek program evaluation.

Regardless of whether Mr. Kammenos expressed his personal view or it was Prime Minister’s way of sending a message to Greek society and his opponents and Greece’s lenders, the early elections issue exists.

It is related to the political developments and government’s political deadlock, since both Greece’s lenders and Greek society put a lot of pressure on the government. The institutions ask for more strict measures and Greek society strongly reacts on the measures escalating their protest actions.
