The arrested bought weapons in Germany and Austria (vid)

Authorities believe the three men were a member of a criminal group but no terrorist link has so far been established

Newsroom February 14 09:23

Greek authorities arrested three British nationals of Iraqi origin in Alexandroupolis, northern Greece on Saturday night, after they found heavy weapons and ammunition hidden in their trailer.

According to the initial investigation, the weapons are likely to have been bought in Germany and Austria and were to be transferred to northern Iraq.

It is also believed that the three men had crossed Europe driving the trailer where they had hidden the guns and bullets.

Police also said that the suspects had been staying in a hotel in Alexandroupolis for about eight days, while according to the evidence they are probably members of a criminal organization and not terrorist group.

Authorities believe the three men were a member of the same criminal group but no terrorist link has so far been established. They say that the purpose of the transfer of these weapons was probably to sell them. None of them has a record of a prior arrest, criminal action, or pending arrest warrant in any European country.

The prosecutor charged two of the three suspects with participating in a criminal organization, involvement in terrorist acts, smuggling and transportation and possession of ammunition and firearms.
