Huge meteor crashes into Earth producing same force as atomic bomb

The energy revealed was the same as the energy used in the first atomic weapon that destroyed Hiroshima in 1945

Newsroom February 24 10:43

NASA has revealed that a huge meteor crashed into the Atlantic ocean earlier this month releasing energy equivalent to 13,000 tons of TNT.

The meteor exploded on February 6 at 14:00 UTC in the air 620 miles (1,000km) off the coast of Brazil, with the force equivalent to an atomic bomb, but no one noticed it.

The energy revealed was the same as the energy used in the first atomic weapon that destroyed Hiroshima in 1945.

This was the largest event of its type since the February 2013 meteor that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, leaving more than 1,600 people injured.

This particular fireball was quite small, measuring about 18 meters, but released energy equivalent to 13,000 tons of TNT.

The scientist though were concerned over the fact that the ‘arrival’ of the meteor was not recorded, since meteors of such small size are difficult to be recorded, even though they have destructive power.
