Mouzalas always called FYROM ‘Macedonia’

He used to call the neighboring country 'Macedonia' before becoming a minister and, as his close circle claims, he continues to call FYROM 'Macedonia'

Newsroom March 16 12:36

Just a few hours before the EU meeting on refugee issue, the mistaken made by Alternate Minister For Migration Policy Yannis Mouzalas who referred to FYROM as ‘Macedonia’ has led to unprecedented developments.

Mr. Mouzalas apologized for the mistake twice, while the leader of Independent Greeks and Minister of Defence, Panos Kammenos, insists on asking for Mouzalas’ resignation and prime minister’s close associates try to downplay the incident referring to “overreactions”

However, the fact is that people in SYRIZA and NGOs often talk ironically about the name issue, arguing that “this is a battle that Greece has already lost”.

Moreover, many top executives of SYRIZA have described the name issue battle as outrageous.

SYRIZA MEP Stelios Kouloglou admitted a few months ago in an interview that “Greece has been defeated on that issue,” adding that “I call Macedonia by its name: Macedonia, and so does the rest of the world”.

Moreover, Mr. Mouzalas used to call the neighboring country ‘Macedonia’ before becoming a minister and, as his close circle claims, he continues to call FYROM ‘Macedonia’.
