What did Varoufakis mean when he said: “I listened to the lenders … They did not know that we were listening to them”

Did he mean that he was listening to them and they were unaware of that?

Newsroom April 8 09:13

In an interview with Press Project in July 2015, Former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis made a statement which went unnoticed back then, but now after the phone-tapping of Thomsen-Velculescu talks, the issue was brought to our attention again.

While describing what happened before, during and after July’s referendum, he said that he and some others had been listening to the lenders.

“And you know, to get things straight, the Troika used to suggest each other, I’ve heard them saying that, when they thought we were not listening: Do not give them anything in written form. Because, they were afraid that if they gave us something in written form, we would show it to the Greek people and let them decide,”.
