The Netherlands’ largest newspaper ‘De Telegraaph’ has published a front page cartoon depicting Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan as an ape trampling on freedom of speech in Europe! Following the arrest in Turkey of Ebru Umar, a Dutch columnist of Metro newspaper for offensive comments against the Turkish President, media in the Netherlands have raised the issue of the repressive and anti-democratic tactics used by Erdogan to quench any dissenting voices not only in Turkey but in Europe too. Recently Erdogan was granted permission by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to take legal actions against a German satirical TV comedian who had broadcast a poet calling Erdogan a dictator on German television. Umar was released Sunday after being question by Turkish authorities.
