Social turmoil: Teachers, doctors and dock workers protest against govt’s policies

Employees of public health system and teachers are on strike demanding adequate funding and hiring permanent staff

The new tax measures imposed by the Greek government which will bring the Greek people to their knees, as well as the serious staff shortages in hospitals and schools have forced teachers and doctors to go on strike demanding adequate funding.

On Wednesday, the employees of public health system are on strike demanding adequate funding, hiring permanent staff, scientific and professional dignity for young doctors and free public health care.

Moreover, the federation of teachers are also on strike protesting against the shortage of teaching staff. The teachers have scheduled a rally protest today at 12:30.

Dock workers continue their strike and will gather at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus asking to secure their labor relations, in view of port privatization.

There will be no metro, tram and electric train service on Wednesday from 12:00 to 16:00 due to a work stoppage announced by the employees protesting against government’s intention to include public transport in the new Privatisation Fund as well as for the delay in the signing of the new labour collective contract.

Another work stoppage has also been scheduled for Friday from 22:00 until the end of the shift.
