German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier and his French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault expressed their concern over a possible ‘Brexit’, during a joint press conference, Tuesday. The two diplomats agreed that a vote by the British public that lead to the UK leaving the EU, would shake the foundations of the Union and require a consorted effort to ensure stability in the EU. Steimeier said he hoped the result on the June 23 referendum would be in favour of the country remaining in the EU, a sentiment echoed by his French colleague. ‘That would be the right choice’, he stressed. ‘A Brexit would shake up the Union’, Steinmeier added.
