Ban Ki-moon to Tsipras: Sustainability to be achieved through reforms

After the meeting, Ban Ki-moon will visit Lesvos to meet with refugees

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras meets with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the Maximos Mansion on the occasion of his two-day visit in Greece.

The UN Secretary General expressed his gratitude to Greece who supported so many refugees saying that the support of Greek people during the refugee crisis is invaluable, while he congratulated Tsipras for implementing the reforms required for economic growth.

He also said that through these reforms Greece will be able to achieve economic sustainability.

On his side, Mr. Tsipras referred to migration and refugee issue and the importance of the EU-Turkey deal.

“Thanks to the EU – Turkey agreement, for which we are constantly fighting to maintain, we have managed to reduce the refugee flow and the deaths in the sea,” he said adding “I hope that with your help we will manage to maintain this agreement.”

After the meeting, Ban Ki-moon will visit Lesvos to meet with refugees, asylum applicants and volunteers on the island.
