Kyriakos Mitsotakis, leader of main opposition party New Democracy (ND), blasted Tsipras during talks in the Greek parliament, Tuesday night, over the proposal by ND for the setting up of a special parliamentary committee to investigate the imposition of the capital controls and the infamous ‘Plan X’ during the first 6 months of the SYRIZA government’s negotiations with the country’s creditors. In a heated session, which, as expected, saw the proposal defeated by 155 votes against, 96 in favour and 20 present, Mitsotakis told Tsipras, who was absent from the proceedings, that he saw those first six months of SYRIZA’s government as a bad dream. “That period left severe trauma on the body of the Greek economy and indelible scars on modern Greek history”, underlined Mitsotakis. He went on to promise that the next parliament would definitely set up a committee to investigate into what happened during that period. “What are you afraid of? Don’t you believe it is in the interest of the Greek people for us to find out what happened?”, Mitsotakis wondered. ‘The Furies will haunt you forever. Even when the truth is uncovered”, said the opposition leader referring to Tsipras.
