Former Defence Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos was viciously beaten by hardcore convict Vsilis Stefanakos in Korydalos Prison, Thursday night, according to a report by newspaper ‘Ethnos’. As the newspaper’s report claims, the incident occurred when Tsochatzopoulos, who is serving a prison sentence for receiving bribes as Defence Minister under the socialist PASOK government, complained to another inmate for leaving the lights on. This infuriated Stefanakos, who burst into the cell of the former Minister and after saying ‘Why are you shouting you old hag’, started physically assaulting him. The reports claims the violent beat down occurred before the eyes of the prison guards who stood idly observing the incident. According to the report, the former Minister was transferred to the prison hospital because of the serious injuries he had sustained. The prison management has not yet confirmed the incident.
